Dinosaurs and my phone!!
My phone stopped working all of a sudden. In this age, where phone has found it's place among the basic necessities of human life ( probably the prime necessity of a pretentious society including myself ), it almost brought my life to a stand still. I tried the basic first aid techniques to revive my dying mobile to no avail. I had to settle with the last resort. The dreaded reset option. With all the despair and anguish going on, I neglected the first rule of resetting. To have the back up. Rubbing salt in the wound, I painfully realized that I had lost all my passwords and stuff and needless to say, I was pissed off.
I was pissed off at myself. I was pissed off at the manufacturer of the mobile brand. I was pissed off at the chair ( poor thing had no idea what came it's way ), I was pissed off at anything and everything. I was pissed off at the universe, in general.
Paulo Coelho, in his famous book, incidentally my most favorite, Alchemist, had written that when you want something the whole universe conspires in helping you to get it. I was now standing on the opposite spectrum of those lines. In part, I agreed with the conspiracy theory. For one, all conspiracy theories are fun. How dull our life would be without them. Anyway, I felt like I was a part of the conspiracy. By the universe itself. Instead of conspiring in the Coelho-esque manner, it has conspired to take anything which I wanted, away from me. I was incandescent with rage. Rage against the whole mechanism.
As I was spitting my fury against the universe, a parallel thought entered my thought trail. Why should the universe conspire against me? Why should the universe even care about me!!?
Those torrent of thoughts had me ending up at thinking about dinosaurs. Not just because I was watching a documentary on them all the while, I was having my meltdown episode. I felt like there was something common between them and me, or the human race, I proudly represent.
I started doing my math.
Apparently, the dinosaurs ruled this planet while they could. They were here for almost 165 million years. On this earth. On our earth. And, we humans, we are here since the last 2 million years. So, that constitutes something around 1.2% of the whole of late Triassic - Jurassic period. In other words, dinosaurs were on earth for a period of monstrous 8250% more than the humans have ever been here.
Now, that's a Jurassic fact!!
Round 1: Dinosaurs 1 - Humans 0
Well, our very own planet earth is not young either. It is approximately 4.5 billion years old. ( No wonder they say it's time we should let it die and move on to some new, young planet). So, by math, dinosaurs were on earth, living in it's full glory for only 3.6% of time of the total duration of our planet's existence. They dominated the planet during their time. The question is:
Where are the dinosaurs now?!
Round 2: Earth 1 - Dinosaurs 0
If you put more thought into it, we are in a place which is 4.5 billion years old, which is approximately 2730% more than the time of probably one of the longest survived and powerful species ever, who incidentally lived for a time period of 8250% more than us and went into complete oblivion one fine day, all of a sudden, by a small rock ( in galaxy terms ). That raises a more important question:
Who are we!?
Round 3: Earth 2 - Humans 0
We might very well be more dangerous than dinosaurs. Because, even in their 165 million long campaign on earth, they couldn't create religions, Gods, nukes, global warming, etc. You name it, we did it. Hell, the dinosaurs could not even muster one world war during their time. We had 2 in just 2 million and on our way to improve that impressive record. Take that big lizards!!
So, coming back to the context. Among the billions of humans or our species, who has been here and evolved for 2 million years, I have been here for only 29 years. ( which is only 0.00001% compared to dinosaurs and even less than that if we consider our earth).
Round 4: Earth 3 - All the living beings including myself 0
By the way, the milky way is 13.5 billion years old. Almost 3 times more than earth.
Round 5: Earth is KO'd!
By this time, I have realized something. That, we are nothing. We are nothing but a passing form of life. So, is it necessary to worry about all the
petty stuff while we are here, on our passage through this grand stage, silently, without even getting noticed in the grand scheme of things?
Nobody in the milky way is going to worry if my phone works or not. Not in a 13.5 billion years!!
It's the sad truth.
We are just hyping ourselves.
A hyped species crowned themselves as the masters and seeking solutions even when there weren't any questions, creating Gods and devils to our convenience.
The 2 million year old us!!
Somebody in the universe must be laughing at us. ( No, not Him, don't even go there ).
