Review: Decision to leave

It's very rare that you stumble upon a movie totally unplanned and it turns out to be one of the best experience you have ever had! If this movie was made by any other director l, it could have earned the title of "masterpiece". Unfortunately for "decision to leave", it was made by a master craftsman who has given us "Oldboy" and "The Handmaiden", certainly tough acts to match up to. Yet, I'm sure this movie will stand the test of time and will garner a cult following over the years.
In one of the most complicated, ove story ever told in the cinema history, Park Chan-wook once again draws us into the world of his complex, humane characters and lead us to a place which we would not foresee even in our wildest thoughts. It tells the story of romance/unexplainable feelings developed between an investigation officer and a woman who he finds fascinating enough to be in doubt to put under the victim or suspect category.  The story at times feels like slipping away from the main plot and can even make the viewers a bit frustrated. But the narrative and performances are strong enough to keep the audience pulled into it and to feel intriguing as to guess where is it leading to or what's coming next. Good luck with that though! As he has done with his other movies, the ending could make you feel like a blow to your head or as if your heart is pulled by strings made of barbed wire. Either way, it is going to stay with you and haunt you for a while, surely.
No one has mastered the art of playing with human feelings in movies like the Koreans do and Park Chan-wook is the flag bearer of it.
Finally, a word about the magnificent Tang Wei, who is the soul of this amazing piece of art. She balances the attractiveness and repulsiveness in equal amount and by the end of it all, you won't be able to help but leave as a fan of her yearning for more!
P.S: The cinematography is breathtaking!!
